There are eight hospitals in Illinois which have been named in the list of the top 120 hospital in the nation for quality safety however some of the most prestigious institutions in Chicago were not able to make it to this list.
The basis of this list is the result of the optional surveys which have been sent to the hospitals by the companies which are carrying this survey out. The hospitals were supposed to give a response to these surveys for being considered. In the current year, close to 2,100 hospitals had completed these surveys as per the Vice President of a group known as Leapfrog which is a not for profit group that conducts these surveys.
Two times in a year, Leapfrog give the hospitals grades from A to F on the basis of a lot of measures which include ICU physician staffing, falls, bedsores and also hand hygiene. The top lists of hospitals have been taking these measures into account along with the additional factors like the rates of C-section, radiation doses for the pediatric patients at the time of CT Scans and the episiotomies at the time of childbirth.
The Vice President said that these were the hospitals which had demonstrated stellar and exceptional performance and it is not necessary that the hospitals which are popular and have big names or brands which excel in the metrics.
The hospitals which did not receive an A grade were not able to the make list and hospitals like Northwestern and University of Chicago were not able to make the cut due to lower grades or quality standards as per the latest grading of Leapfrog.
